FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you offer transfers from Cape Town?
You can book transfers with us. These are done by a fully insured/licensed transfer provider on our behalf. Please ask Reservations for our transfer prices. Please note that if you require an especially early collection from the lodge (e.g. before 9am) or a late departure from Cape Town (after 1pm) then there will be an extra charge as the transfer guide will need to stay overnight in Clanwilliam. We can arrange transfers to/from the Winelands easily at a slightly higher charge. (Transfers from Hermanus or Swellendam are possible, but a lot more expensive. Sorry!)
Should I choose Full Board & Activities or Dinner, Bed & Breakfast?
This all depends on whether you like to explore independently or whether you would prefer a guided experience.

The Dinner, Bed & Breakfast (DBB) option is ideal for people who have their own vehicle and who like to be independent. You can do what you want to do, when you want to do it. We give plenty of information and maps on some of the best walks and scenic drives in the area. The Full Board & Activities (FBA) option is best if you are not sure where to go. Or if you don’t have your own vehicle. We will take care of you during your stay with a range of activities on offer. There’s a seasonal ‘programme’ where you choose what you want to do from the day’s options. You can do as much or as little as you’d like.
When is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is from 14:30. You are welcome to arrive at Cederberg Ridge earlier, and make use of our swimming pool or garden. Check-out – 11:00 on the day of departure. We try to accommodate early arrivals or late check-outs, subject to room availability. Unfortunately this cannot be guaranteed, unless you pay for an extra night.
If I book on Diner, B&B, can I still book excursions at the Lodge?
Yes you can, but it is subject to the availability of guides and vehicles. We accommodate our guests booked on a Full Board & Activity basis first Then if there are any extra places left i.e. for a guided walk or an excursion to the West Coast, we advertise that at the lodge, so that you can book a spot. Usually we should be able to accommodate you on guided walking and guided sundowner trips but other guided excursions may be booked up.
Can I have lunch when I arrive?
Lunch is a light buffet meal typically on offer from 1pm to 2.30pm. If you are booked on a Full Board basis, lunch on your arrival day OR on your departure day is included. If you have booked on a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis, then there is an extra charge for lunch.
Are drinks included?
We don’t include drinks with meals as people vary in terms of how much, and what they wish to drink. The minibar drinks are also for your account. However we do include selected drinks with our excursions. This includes bottled water on all our activities/excursions and a range of drinks on our sundowner trips (House wine, selected spirits, beer and soft drinks).
Do you accept children?
We love kids and accept children from 6 and upwards – younger ages by prior arrangement. See our Families page for more info.
What is the best time of year to visit?
That depends on what you are looking for?
Peace and away-from-it-all: Year round.
Extensive full day hiking: Most of year (but not recommended for December to February)
Water Activities: Mid November to February
Spring Flowers: Earlier than you would think – August
Do the rooms & suites have internet access?
We have complimentary Wi-Fi in all the rooms & suites and in the reception & library areas of the lodge. However we have deliberately not extended it to include the dining room or sitting room as we prefer to have conversation and atmosphere there.
How far are you from Cape Town and elsewhere?
Cape Town or Airport 230km 2½ hours drive
Winelands 205-230km 2½ hours drive
Hermanus 340km 4 hours drive

How does your family accomodation work ?
1 child (under 12) can share with their parents in the Luxury and Superior Suites. The window seat can be converted into a child’s bed. Families with 2 children can book the Superior Family Suite or the 2 bedroom Family Suite. The 2 bedroom Family Suite can sleep up to 4 adults and 3 extra kids (under 12). Another option for larger families is to combine the Superior Family Suite with the adjacent Luxury Suite (as they share a common open foyer). This option can also sleep 4 adults and 3 kids (under 12).
