Muisbosskerm

Muissbosskerm beach restaurant on west coast visit from Cederberg Wilderness Lodge
Muisbosskerm is an open air beach restaurant on the West Coast near Lamberts Bay.

It is probably the best example of alfresco west coast hospitality. There's an array of seafood on offer, as well as delicious home-made bread, paella and crayfish (at an extra cost). Muisbosskerm is known for its seafood but if that's not your favourite, don't worry! When your tummy is full from the the seafood buffet, out comes a selection of meat dishes including a tradtional South African potjie such as a waterblommetjie bredie. (A bredie is a stew cooked in an iron pot over an open fire).

It's a rustic experience - you eat with a mussel shell as your fork. But a truly authentic one! All the time, you enjoy superb views over the beach and crashing waves of the Atlantic ocean. On a sunny day, there is little to beat this!

You can visit Bird Island beforehand or enjoy a swim in the sea. But the water is usually very bracing.

We include lunch at Muisbosskerm as part of a guided excursion to the West Coast. But if your timing doesn't match our seasonal programme, it is easy to visit on a self-drive basis.
